La obra de Amelia Peláez en el Centro del Carmen

La pintora cubana Amelia Peláez funde tradición y vanguardia en la exposición que sobre su trabajo presenta el Centro del Carmen de Valencia, en la sala del Dormitorio.

Una obra llena de color y de formas suntuosas, de siluetas de mujer y naturalezas muertas que llega por primera vez a Valencia, y que nos permitirá conocer la obra de esta artista que está considerada como el icono de la creación cubana del siglo XX, además de ser una de las grandes del arte iberoamericano del nuestros días.

“Amelia Peláez. Una mirada retrospectiva (1928 – 1966)” está compuesta por 48 obras, procedentes del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Cuba, entre óleos y dibujos, que se organizan de forma cronológica, para crear una visión general de las distintas etapas que posee su obra, considerada como un baluarte de la identidad cubana.

La muestra arranca con obra de su primera etapa, años 30 y 40, muy influenciada por la pintura que pudo ver en su viaje a París, como el cubismo que se impregna en sus naturalezas muertas a base de frutas exóticas cubanas. Después llega la década de los 40, donde va definiendo su estilo, y donde podemos ver obras como “Mujer” o “La pianista”, para después pasar a los años 50 y 60, donde el color irá tomando protagonismo aunque sin perder la licotomia tradición / modernidad que marcará toda su producción artística.

Su obra está muy influenciada por las vanguardias europeas y por el comienzo de la modernidad en la plástica de su país. Sus principales temas son las naturalezas muertas, recónditos interiores de hogares y perfiles femeninos, todo ello realizado a base de unos colores fuertes y con grandes focos de luz.
